Douglas Lannigan
Douglas Lannigan is one of the most senior Jaru men painting at Yarlyil. He grew up in Halls Creek and has his home at Warlawurru (Red Hill), just outside of the township.
His remarkable works can at first glance seem quite simple and naïve, but are actually a glimpse of a past still deeply etched in this landscape and in his mind.
Douglas works with broad mark-making that closely connects to the traditional body painting of ancestral dance and to the drawings made in the sand with a stick to pass on important stories and lore.
