Samantha Brown

My family mostly come from Balgo and our language is Kukatja.

A lot of my family are artists, and we have country both around Balgo and also closer to Halls Creek. We grew up doing painting at home, my uncles and cousins would paint and I used to help them with the dots, that's how we learn from family.

I make strong colourful paintings that are a sort of mapping of  my country, ceremony stories and important places and changing seasons.

Painting is a good way keep culture strong, and my husband also paints at the art centre. Also other family - we all get together, share stories and make our art.
