Samphire grows among the salty claypans of the Tanami, and all around Lake Gregory. The colours and reflections change throughout the seasons and the claypans are always shifting and changing creating new colours, lines and marks.

The flowers go through many different shifting shades as they bud, bloom and then fade away and produce seed.

Samphire is a traditional bushfood gathered by Aboriginal people for thousands of years. The stalks and shoots are eaten like a salad plant and the seeds are ground up for damper breads.
