Goanna are important in culture. For some people they are spiritual totems and guides. If a Goanna is you guide then you would not eat a Goanna, you would watch and listen.
For many people with other totems the Goanna is important bush food, and is speared, then roasted over a campfire. The tail is the best part for eating.
Goanna are common in our traditional indigenous artwork, sometimes to talk about hunting places and sometimes to carry on Dreamtime stories.
