Maureen Joyce Deegan
Born in 1977, Maureen grew up in Halls Creek, the eighth of ten children of well-known Jaru Bonnie Deegan. Her father was and Peter Button, a Jaru man from Lamboo.
In 2011, while raising six young children, Maureen was inspired by her mother's life story to start painting . Her work is often about her mother's country of Margaret River to the south west of Halls Creek, but also the wildflowers and seasons of the area.
Maureen is an established and sought after artist with a distinctive style. In 2017, she won the Indigenous Artist Category at the Kimberley Art Prize Derby.
