Maureen Joyce Deegan

Born in 1977, Maureen grew up in Halls Creek, the eighth of ten children of well-known Jaru artist, Bonnie Deegan (deceased). Her father is Peter Button (deceased), a Jaru man from Lamboo.

In 2011, while raising six young children, Maureen was inspired by her mother's life story to start painting . Her work is often about her mother's country of Margaret River to the south west of Halls Creek, but also the wildflowers and seasons of many different Jaru landscapes .

Maureen is an established and sought after artist with a distinctive style. In 2017, she won the Indigenous Artist Category at the Kimberley Art Prize Derby.
