This place goy its English name because it i looks like a miniature of the Great Wall of China.
China Wall is a natural vein of white quartz rising up to 6 metres above the surrounding country. The formation stretches for many kilometres, rising high out of the ground and then disappearing back into the earth again. Sections of quartz wall can be spotted all the way to Kununurra.
Scientists believe the wall was formed when the rock surrounding the much harder and resistant quartz was weathered and eroded away.
Burraluba is the Jaru name and in Gija/Kija it is Mulugunjiny.
This place holds important Dreaming for Jaru and Gija people, who have their own account of how it came to be. This story is not openly shared and is part of cultural practice that is guarded.
