In the old days people travelled through the river, sometimes across the plain. They would drink water from the waterholes.

They would travel a long way on foot gathering bush foods and bush medicine flowers in  coolamon that they carved or made from paperbark.

Even today we still look for the bush fruits and medicine when the big wet arrives.
