I am a Walmajarri man from the Kimberley's on my mothers side. On my father's side I have Jirrbal. The Freshwater Eel is my totem for my family connections in Jirrbal country, North Queensland.
The Mubaray (eel) has a complex life cycle, coming out of the water and moving across the land as part of the breeding cycle. This painting shows the Mubaray moving between waterholes and laying its eggs.
