We still collect bush tucker plants in the Kimberley's and teach our kids how to use them and where to find them. The bush tomato for example, has black seeds inside it and you have to clean it out then you can eat it. When the fruit is yellow that's when its ripe, when its green its not good to eat.
Baalibi is a bush coconut, you crack it open and you can eat the inside of it. You can only eat it when its white, if it's black it has gone bad and you can't eat them.
Bush Orange and bush Banana grow on vines, when you see flower the fruits are still ripening.
Bush Yam is dug up from ground, you can find it by tapping the ground and listening for the hollow sound and by seeing that cracks in the earth that lead to the roots beneath.
Saltbush ripens to red and or some kinds of saltbush have black berries. This is when they are ready to eat.
